Ccitt u-law 8,000Khz 8 bit mono. I am trying to create a message to be played on a shoretel phone system. The instructions state it should be recorded in a wav file with ccitt u-law 8,000Khz 8 bit mono. In Goldwave I save the recording as a wav file in u-law 8000 Hz 64kbps mono but this but it did not work, when the message is played froms shoretel the caller can not hear anything. This is the program I use for most of my recording needs. It has a simple click and record interface, and lets you save out in a variety of formats as well (though not as many as Audacity). I wasn't able to find an option for encoding in u-Law in this program, but you can record an 8-bit 8kHz wav file in this program. The correct format there is Format: CCITT u-Law and Attributes: 8.000 khz, 8 Bit, Mono. Now that Microsoft has apparently sucked the life out of Sound Recorder in Windows 7, my next preference is using Audacity.
